Quality Physical Education project

ABOUT QualiTePE project

The project QualiTePe is a project that aims to operationalize Quality of Teaching in Physical education (PE). Bringing together experts from different European countries working in the segment of PE teaching, a project aims to achieve a consensus about what good and quality PE teaching is and to develop a QualityTePE framework. This framework will be bolstered by an instrument designed to facilitate instructional research and enhance the professional development of PE teachers. QualityTePE framework concept, developed during the project, establishes the core teaching dimensions and characteristics of PE instruction, ensuring high-quality teaching in PE. It was developed based on research reviews; empirical studies followed by results of Delphi survey conducted with participants from project partner countries. It should provide standards and criteria about the elements of quality PE teaching. QualiTePE instrument is designed to provide formative evaluation of PE teaching. The instrument will be tested and validated during the project lifetime by participating partner organization. It`s use will be supported by QualiTEPE teaching materials and teacher educator toolkit that will help the process of testing of the QualiTePE framework and QualiTePE evaluation instrument in teacher education setting. The outcomes and results from the project will be beneficial for all PE teachers as it gives a clear criterion about what QualiTePE indicators are and provides a reliable instrument for evaluation, making the characteristics of good PE teaching “visible”. It will be beneficial for PE teaching practice but also will be important for education of future PE teachers and PE teachers’ educators.

The project involves 11 partner institutions and organizations from 10 European countries. Project activities take place in all partner countries and within five transnational project meetings, one Learning, teaching, training activity (Joint staff training event “Preparation of the pilot implementation and evaluation study” and 10 multiplier events (9 national multiplier events and 1 joint national/international multiplier event hosted in each of the participating project countries).

  • The project brings together experts from 10 different European countries to work out a common understanding of high-quality PE teaching and develop the QualiTePE framework concept, which determine and describe the central teaching dimensions and characteristics in PE instruction.
  • The project results will also include a validated QualiTePE instrument designed to provide formative evaluation of PE teaching, supported by QualiTEPE teaching materials and teacher educator toolkit. This instrument will be useful for physical education teachers, students taking the lesson and observers of the lesson.
  • QualiTePE project will be beneficial for all PE teachers as it gives a clear criterion about what QualiTePE indicators are and provides a reliable instrument for evaluation, making the characteristics of good PE teaching “visible”. It will be beneficial for PE teaching practice but also will be important for education of future PE teachers and PE teachers’ educators.
