News: EUPEA is coordinating two Erasmus + projects in Key Action 2, PAHLESS and PAHLEPS

PAHLESS: Physical Activity and Healthy Lifestyle in European Secondary Schools

The main objective of the two-year PAHLESS project starting in April 2022 is to bring together 4 European secondary schools (SecS) from 4 European countries (Luxembourg, Spain, Hungary, Ireland) in a small-scale partnership for the exchange of good practice in the four HEPAS (Healthy and physically active schools in Europe) dimensions (PE: Physical Education, PA: Physical Activity, SS: School Sport and HL: Healthy Lifestyle) under the lead of EUPEA (European Physical Education Association), with the following aims: – To map the current situation with regard to best practice related to physically active and healthy SecSs in alignment with the HEPAS framework in participating SecSs; – To exchange amongst partner schools about their initiatives and best practice related to PE, PA, SS and HL; – To support the participating SecSs when applying to the MSA (Moving Schools Award); – To strengthen the relevant professional competencies of the involved participants; – To facilitate the development of an international network of physically active and healthy SecSs.

The focus lies on supporting secondary teachers (mainly in physical education), school leaders and other teaching professions when it comes to their efforts in school development and in acquiring and developing basic skills and key competencies in their respective professions related to PE, PA, SS and HL in school settings.

The main expected outcome of the project is capacity building in order to facilitate the implementation of the idea of HEPAS in the participating SecSs. It is agreed among the professionals from the participating SecSs, that in order to reach these aims, exchange of examples of good practice, is vital. Furthermore, outputs from the HEPAS project, which ended in November 2021, are presented to the participating SecSs during the project lifetime as additional examples of good practice. Thus, the participating SecSs as educational institutions are additionally trained and they will get all the necessary tools to work on an internal strategic action in the frame of school development to raise and improve activities related to PE, PA, SS and HL underpinning the acquisition and further development of the competencies of secondary teachers and other staff. In order to valuate these efforts, the SecSs will apply during the project lifetime to the Moving School Award, with the support of EUPEA, as well as peer support from the other SecSs.

PAHLEPS: Physical Activity and Healthy Lifestyle in European Primary Schools

A similar, complementary project for primary schools bringing together 4 European primary schools from 4 European countries (Luxembourg, Ireland, Portugal, and Spain) with respective different target groups in a different setting with different needs started in parallel and the respective final project activities will be connected to a HEPAS Seminar organised by EUPEA for both European primary and secondary schools in March 2024.
